I’ve been on my knees next to driveways, patios and half-finished fire pits for the better part of two decades. Not metaphorically — I mean literally crouched down, running my hand across cracked asphalt, checking the depth of a spall in a concrete slab, or eyeballing whether a paver edge has shifted enough to cause a drainage problem. It started with my own driveway and a genuinely embarrassing sealcoating job. Twenty years later that kind of hands-on inspection is second nature.
My name is Marcus Delvecchio. I’m not a licensed contractor — I’m a handyman and DIY outdoor landscaper who got obsessed with this stuff after redoing my own place badly enough to want to understand why. I’m based in the mid-Atlantic, where the freeze-thaw cycles are brutal and everything outdoors takes a beating every winter. That climate has taught me a lot, because around here shortcuts don’t stay hidden for long.
Side Projects Around the Neighbourhood
These days a decent share of my weekends go on other people’s places rather than my own. It started the way these things always do — a neighbour watched me re-sand a paver patio, asked what I was doing, and asked whether I’d take a look at theirs. Word gets around a street faster than you’d think. Since then I’ve helped with driveways, walkways, patios, pergolas, fire pits, raised beds, low-voltage lighting runs and a lot of drainage problems that turned out to be the real issue all along.
I want to be clear about what that is and isn’t. It’s side work: evenings and weekends, for neighbours, friends and people they pass my name on to. I don’t run a company, I don’t have a crew, and I don’t take on anything that needs a licence, a permit or an engineer — when a job crosses that line I say so and tell people to call someone qualified. What I’m good at is the hands-on outdoor work most homeowners can do themselves once somebody shows them how.
That’s actually where most of this site comes from. The questions I get asked while I’m kneeling on someone’s driveway are the same questions people type into a search bar at ten at night, and they deserve a better answer than they usually get.
Why I Started This Site
Over the years I noticed something that bothered me. Homeowners were spending real money — sometimes hundreds of dollars — on products chosen from advice that was clearly written by someone who had never touched a squeegee or filled a crack in their life. Vague, generic, or flat-out wrong. I got tired of watching neighbours make things worse by following bad guidance, and then getting called in afterwards to help sort it out.
So I started Sealed Pathways to fix that. This site is my way of sharing what I actually know — earned through my own place, other people’s places, failed experiments, successful repairs, and a lot of time spent working out what holds up and what doesn’t.

My Approach to Recommendations
I don’t recommend anything I wouldn’t use on my own place or put on a neighbour’s. When I review a sealcoating product, a crack filler or a set of patio furniture, I’m drawing on direct experience — years of trying things, some that worked and plenty that didn’t. If something didn’t impress me, I’ll tell you that too. My reputation on my own street is worth more than a quick commission.
A Little More About Me
When I’m not thinking about surface prep or aggregate density, I’m usually outdoors anyway. I fish whenever I get the chance — mostly freshwater, nothing fancy. There’s something about being patient, reading conditions and doing things the right way that carries over from fishing to a paver base and honestly to this site too. I’m not interested in cutting corners anywhere.
What drives me is simple: I want people to feel confident taking care of their own homes. A well-built patio or a properly sealed driveway isn’t just curb appeal — it protects your property and saves you money over time.
